With his acoustic guitar ever somewhere close by and a silky voice that is sure to put smiles on the faces of the opposite sex, Stan Ng’ang’a was clearly a perfect fit for the Penya Record label. With a sure talent on their hands Penya wasted no time in releasing Stan’s debut album, slyly titled Kenya Debu t . The album cover features him standing (with guitar in hand) in front of a barber shop that seems to been put together with parts from different houses. Though the shop has since been torn down, it is interesting with its white door, brown window frames and stained glass windows. The shop and windows seem to provide a good reflection of the music we are about to indulge in; simple and yet free-spirited. The first song on the album, " She Is " is a soothing tune and guitar played with a purity which I guess aptly reflects the nature of Stan’s love for a special someone in his life. And with frank lyrics like " kama ngoma kuna wakati yeye huniudhi/sitaki kumwona ani...

Dela: It is soulful, music for the soul, and it's also African so I call it "Afro-soul". I fuse it(Afro-soul) with a number of different genres like reggae, blues and jazz. ::KC:: Who would you say are your musical influences? ...

She is an artist you may (or may not) have heard of before, but rest assured she is working hard to make sure all that changes soon! With the Kenyan music scene flooded with a lot mediocre artists, it is refreshing to hear some real talent which this artist no doubt has. Featured on Sauti Sol’s debut album Mwanzo, Dela is one of the latest signees to one of the hottest urban labels around, Penya Records. KenyaChristian blog got in touch with Dela last month after her performance at the August 7 th Memorial Park, which was held as a farewell concert for Sauti Sol as they embarked on their first international tour of Europe. It was also held to commemorate the tragic events of 11 years ago that saw Kenya caught up in the war between the U.S and Islamic extremists.
