Slideluck Potshow @ Tribe

Image
Slideluck Potshow is a New York City-based, non-profit arts organization that provides an opportunity for artists and arts-appreciators to gather around food, friends, and artwork for an unforgettable night. This event, which began in a Seattle backyard eight years ago and regularly draws crowds of a thousand people in NYC, is coming to Kenya! The evening begins with a couple hours of mingling and dining on the home-cooked delights of those who attend, and then the lights are dimmed, the crowd is hushed, and a spectacular slideshow commences. Please join us by the pool at Tribe on Saturday, January 16th, for an engaging, unique, and fun evening. The Nairobi event will feature Kenyan and African photographers and artists along with a handful of international artists. Presenters range from the very accomplished to the up and coming, and everyone has a maximum of 5 minutes. Africa Know's: Photojournalism

Image
Our Purpose: To tell a different story about Africa. The Re-branding of Africa. The story everyone knows and yet no one knows. Africa Knows is about the challenges, triumphs, dreams and nightmares of being an African in a 21st century city that is straddling several revolutions at the same time – the technological revolution, the agricultural revolution, a democratic resurgence and a post-colonial identity crisis complicated by old ethnic tensions. Africa Knows about its own land and its own people more than any international media agency can ever know. Africa tells its own story to those who want to listen with their hearts and their heads. This is the beginning of a new identity, starting with Kenya...

Writing With Light: The Art of Picture Taking

Image
I recently made my way over to Kuona Trust in Hurlingham to check out the Writing With Light launch. This is an exhibition by 12 upcoming photographers who just finished a 14 week photography workshop facilitated by pro photographer Sylvia Gichia . This was workshop intended to improve the skills of upcoming photographers, and help them improve their individual styles. I arrived about half an hour into the start of the exhibition and there were already quite a number of people there. After greeting a few people I immediately went to check out the gallery of pictures. As you enter the exhibition there is a small room with a TV set up in one corner which was playing slides of photos of the photographers during the workshop. This made the photographers stories and journeys come alive as you see the different activities they took part in to get to their debut exhibition. Hanging from the ceiling on rolls of film were pictures of the photographers; each picture with accompanying brief...

John Kenny captures Northern Kenya

Image
Check out some amazing pictures British photographer John Kenny took during his month's stay among the Pokot and Turkana of Northern Kenya. It's at times like these, seeing the beauty and diversity we have in this country Kenya that I wonder, why we have to allow some people to make us be hateful and suspicious of each other? We are a beautiful people, and we are really blessed with different tribes, cultures and languages. We should not mess up this precious jewel of a nation we have. Strive to remove any negativity and tribalist thoughts you may have today. Treat your fellow Kenyan with respect and love. On another note, I need to visit MORE of this country! too stuck in Nairobi. Check out more pictures on his blog here , and visit his website here .
