Tusker Lite have been doing a fabulous job in bringing soul and R&B acts to town. Artists some of us never imagined we would see perform live have been coming to perform for the past year or so. artists like Joe Thomas ,  Donnell Jones , Vivian Green and of course Erykah Badu (who has been the best so far in this writers opinion.) Some artists performances have been great (Ms.Badu), some have been so-so and some have been bad. But this is what it's all about, going to see if your favourite artist is just as good as we have seen on TV,radio,internet etc. So anyway all this is thanks to Tusker Lite, and whoever thought up this event deserves a pat on the back. Anyway, I know we all have our dream artists that we would like to see perform. So, I am going to make my list of Top artists that I would love to see perform.    Every time I feel I’m about to lose hope in the R&B/soul genre there appears an artist that helps restore my faith and keeps me wanting to return to a music genre that was once so great. An artist who has paid his dues from the church to the stage, Eric Roberson has definitely put in work; the results are evidence of this. I had never heard of Eric Roberson until I saw his name pop up here and there late last year on music blogs. He released his album “ Mister.Nice Guy ” in late 2011 to a lot of acclaim and I decided to check him out. I was impressed by what I heard and so decided to review his albums just to put you folks out there on this cat. So, enough talk lets delve into the album. I am so sad and depressed by this right now. It's like gosh..all I can ask is WHY..you know? *SIGH!!** I dont think you understand, she is(was) like my top 2 favourite artists right now(apart from Nneka I think). The thing I love about Amy is she gave me hope in music again, hope that there are artists out there with real talent, with great lyrics, who are pushing boundaries. Amy Winehouse was instrumental in reviving pop-soul music in the UK and US for cyin out loud. She made American singers look bad, and showed them how soul should really be done again- made them rediscover their creation! I ve listened to Back to Black more times than i can count just exploring her voice, and sound, every note she sang and change and her no-holds barred, expose-it-all intelligently written lyrics were soo great to hear. This is just sad, I was used to regularly check sites for any news on a new album. I know she was currently on tour, I also scoured the internet for any music I hadnt heard like...

Believe it or not I have not thought much of music's quality since the early-mid 90's. Even as a teenager I thought the quality of music had really gone down, and there was not a lot of creativity/effort being put into its making anymore. That's why when I first heard this song I was really blown away and impressed. Even by the time of its release (1997) I felt music was already getting mad lame, that's why it really stood out to me. It is from the Love Jones movie soundtrack which I haven't watched since that period, ( might check that out again:) Anyway this is probably a top 20 song of the 90's for me. Enjoy! (Two things I never knew until this post; I've always thought Randy Jackson  wrote the song, but Van Hunt wrote it, while Randy plays the bass guitar.  Dionne Farris sung for Arrested Development , I didn't know that! cool) If I was a musician serious about my work I wouldn't strive for a song any less than this.

You know me, big Foreign Exchange fan:) Their latest album Authenticity isn't as good as their previous one which saw mad replay on my Zune . (did i mention my lovely Zune died on me some months back! sob) There are some nice cuts(like this one) on it though. This is a re-up post.I'm posting it again cause the song seems to have charted on Billboard 100 ,and I'm not even sure it was meant to be an official single To me it sounds like a previously unreleased track from maybe early 2000s or Miseducation period. Was just listening to this song and thought I'd post it for y'all to enjoy too, hope you're having a good "Heroes Day." This song has remained one of my all time favourites since I was a kid, and is by my favourite soul artist of all time (I consider MJ pop). I don’t know what’s happened in the past few years in the Nigerian music scene, or what has sparked this sudden wave of great music & artists, but one thing is sure, I am enjoying it! I already introduced many of you to a brilliant artist called Nneka (the who recently moved back to Nigeria from Germany) on this blog, and now I want to talk about another equally great singer. Many of you may have already heard of this Paris-born Nigerian artist called Asa (pronounced Asha ), and if you’ve followed this blog I’ve previously posted some of her videos. (see here and here ). Well, now I am here to review her eponymous debut album which was released in 2007. I really need to get better at doing reviews because I take too much time to do them, and considering I’ve had this album since mid 2008 it’s been a long time coming for this review.
