Here's an article on the 10th Anniversary of what's in my opinion the best album of my generation. I doubt Lauryn Hill will ever return to what we used to remember her as, but at least we have this classic to listen to and study for its a timeless classic.I've always maintained that given a few more years and albums Lauryn would have become the Bob or Stevie of our generation(which we so lack), but I'm not a coulda,woulda type person. Ten years on some have come close like Alicia Keys and recently Amy Winehouse.. but none have quite reached the transcendent level of her music. I really don't watch television or listen to radio much anymore, I find my intelligence being lowered when I attempt to watch 95% of the stuff on the tube. But there are still some good broadcasts out there. One of them I enjoy is the Kojo Nnamdi Show on WAMU 88.5 (a DC NPR station). It has interesting shows and Kojo Nnamdi is a good host. I really can't stand know-it-all,shout-in-your ear radio hosts and Kojo is none of those. He is pretty fair and balanced,knowledgable, talks issues and is generally down to earth. His show also now(finally) has a podcast . How about you, what shows do you watch on TV or listen to on radio and would recommend that dont lower the IQ?

Bolt is simply astounding.Here is M.Johnson speaking of Bolts performance Usain Bolt's 200m victory in a new world record time of 19.30 seconds was simply incredible. This guy is Superman II. When I saw the start he made to the race, I just thought 'wow'. It was a much better start than the one he made in winning the 100m - in another new world record time - on Saturday. Guys at 6ft 5ins tall should not be able to start like that. Bolt had the slowest start in the field in the 100m but here it was better than anyone else's and there were some good starters out there. O.K, my "money" is on Usain Bolt to grab the 100m gold medal on Saturday. Have you seen the man run, he is tall, has long strides coupled with speed. I predict he'll run under 9.8sec. (Update: the man run under 9.7 seconds(the first time a human being has done that) without even straining! This guy is unbelievable, he is the Michael phelps of track)

Black rappers/artists and other people with influence have mainstreamed the word nigger so much that other races of people feel it's okay, normal and "cool" to use the word in their everyday speech. What type of mess is this? Recently popular rapper Nas said it's okay if Eminem called him a nigger, because Nas can also call him a cracker! O.K I am a fan of Nas' music but that's one of the most idiotic things I've ever heard an artist say. HipHop has had probably the biggest role in making the word nigger mainstream and giving people including other races a pass to use it. The joke is on us yet again!

Popular drive-time presenter Njugush (also of Homeboyz Radio), and most recently host of Route 104 recently went off air as he pursues other ministry opportunities. His position has now been taken over by Justus Owaka. Similarly, afternoon presenter JM (Justus Mwakideu) also left the station and is headed for an upcoming radio broadcaster. His position has now been taken over by George Gichuru. I'd just like to say, Njugush is someone who has helped me grow as a Christian just by listening to his show. I have literally grown up(since late teens) listening to him since the Metro FM days.When I was still a new Christian his show was a big help in my life. ::KC blog:: wishes him all the best in his new ministry work and many more blessings to come!

I had been asking myself this question quite a lot in the weeks leading up to the premier of CNN Presents: Black in America . The truth is I have always wanted to explore this topic since my early childhood. Although I am black I have never truly experienced a stereotypical “black lifestyle”. I live in the suburbs surrounded mostly by Caucasians’ and I’m used to being the unique black kid in the class and people just seem to see me as an equal. Similar to some of the more successful African-Americans I saw on the show, I have heard a great deal from my black peers that I am too white. In the elementary school that I attended, I was usually the only black kid in class so I veered away from African-American culture. My parlance and dialect closely imitated that of Midwestern Americans. Prior to watching Black in America, being black simply meant proving oneself by worki

Another exciting new artist (that I admittedly randomly discovered on a blog) is Nigerian born artist Nneka Egbuna . Now currently based in Germany, Nneka has released 2 albums and an EP, with her debut album "Victim of Truth" garnering critical acclaim. Though relatively still unknown, she is very talented and her fame can only grow. She is already being compared to Lauryn Hill (I wouldn't go that far...yet), but she is reminiscent of L-Boogie (in her spiritual,political musical style). She also seems to be continuing in the spirit of Fela Kuti. Which brings me to her latest album " No Longer At Ease." based on Chinua Achebe's book of the same name. I consider it an even better, more complete album than her debut. The album opens on a serious melodic note,with the haunting "Death Intro" but quickly jumps into the great single "Heartbeat" where she creates an infectious chorus by extending the words repetitively. ...one of my favorite "new" rappers. Though he has been on the scene for a long time as part of the UMC's , he has now gone solo and is creating a buzz in the underground.He now goes by the name N.Y. OIL . (try and figure out what the OIL part represents) He is what you can call an activist rapper, and his music deals with issues regarding race,politics,hiphop, and just issues affecting black people. He reminds me of a KRS-One or Public Enemy (and I am not reaching when I say that.) Dude is genuinely talented and outspoken. After hearing some of his poems,interviews and his latest album Hood Treason , I was sold. No he is not Holy Hip-Hop but his music has a powerful message.

So from recent United Nations figures it appears HIV & AIDS is just as prevalent if not more prevalent than ever. 25 years after its first appearance the disease shows no signs of letting up. Though there is some good news (depending on how you view the glass) in that the number of people with HIV has gone down from 33.2 to 33 million, there is also an increase in countries like China, Russia, Germany, Britain and Australia. New data also shows the number of new HIV cases annually in the U.S is 40% higher than thought. In Kenya the picture is not any better, with 1.8 million people living with the virus. What are your thoughts on what can be done to fight HIV? Do you think condoms are the solution(what I refer to as the asbestos suit method)? Is abstinence unrealistic, should it be scrapped? Have you been tested, do you know our status. I have, and I do(I'm negative). In the meantime the virus continues to threaten mankind, will we overcome it?

Don't mean to scare you with this poster.... ....but I am a huge fan of the Terminator movies. T2 is still one of my all-time favorite movies and they will be releasing the last in the franchise soon(probably 2009). It will be called Terminator Salvation and who else but the Dark Knight himself Christian Bale will be starring as John Connor , leader of the human resistance against the cyborgs. If you are not up on the story line, I suggest you pick up all three DVDs starting with the 1984 classic to get up to speed! What will be interesting for me will be, to see how they'll make a compelling movie without the talent of Arnold Shwarzeneggar (will he make an appearance?) Also the director will be McG ( of Charlies Angels)..I know, gasp! Will he ruin the franchise or will he surprise everyone? All I know is that this last movie better be an epic classic or frankly I'll be very dissapointed. Do you know how long us Terminator fans have waited for this last epic battle bet

The U.S House of Representatives this past Tuesday apologized to African-Americans for slavery. The resolution was authored by Steve Cohen a white Democrat from Tennessee. What do you think, is it too little too late? Why has this come up this year, does Obama's candidacy have anything to do with it? Should blacks demand reparations? What are your thoughts?

This makes me absolutely sick to my stomach. Just this week I had a painful,profound experience concerning the n-word. Is this what we come to? What's wrong with us, why would people with so much influence on their tongue use the N-Word when so many young people are influenced by them? I will be writing more on this issue later.

This could be an interesting performance. If I am not wrong we have never had a Kenyan techno/electronic band , so I guess this is a first?
